Unit 4
How I’ve changed!
My life has changed a lot in the last few years. I used to be
overweight but I’m not anymore. I lost a lot of weight after I started playing tennis. Playing tennis three times a week is very good exercise. Now I’m fitter and healthier.
The biggest change in my life was becoming much better in English. This is thanks to my English teacher, who gave me an interesting book to read. I enjoyed it so much that I started to read other books. This is the most important change because I am no longer afraid of the English language and I am doing better in my exams. This has made my parents even prouder of me.
How I’ve changed
My life has changed a lot in the last few years. I used to be short, but now I’m quite tall. I remember that I used to be really shy and remain silent in the primary school, but now people will think,“What a outgoing boy he is!” And I find I’ve really changed. I didn't use to like Chinese class, even hate it. But now it's one of my favorite subjects. I used to like listening to the country music, but now I like rock music better.
The biggest change in my life was that I used to like eating junk food, and now I am used to eating healthy food. Someone may ask me,“Why do you change your eating habits?” I think I will tell him, “I saw some pictures about people who have eaten too much junk food. They are terrible and unbelievable. Then I thought about my future, I was not ready to be like those people. I want to stay in
health, so that I can create wealth easily. This is the most important change because health is the capital of life. If I lose my health, I will lose everything.
When I’m free, I often examine myself many times, and I always find differences between yesterday-me and today-me. I’m usually surprised in those changes, and think, “How I’ve changed!” And there’s a question: What changed me? The time. Time could change everything.
Unit 3
My name is Li Jie and I’m from Beijing, China. I’ll be coming to your school for a short study vacation this year. I’d like to know more about your school and courses I can take.
First, I would like to find out exactly how long the course is and when it will begin. I wonder if you could send me the course outline and some information about the course fees.
Could you please also give me some information about student housing and transport to your school? In addition, it would be interesting for me to know about activities that students can take part in and the places where they can hang out and have their meals after school.
I would like to thank you for your help and I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours faithfully.

Unit 2
Dear Sue,
My favorite Chinese festival is the Spring Festival. It is celebrated on the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar.
Before the festival, our houses have to be cleaned and we need to buy new clothes for a new year’s coming.
On the eve, my family goes to my grandparents’ home for a reunion dinner. Our family usually has jiaozi, fish, niangao and a great many dishes.
On the first day of our New Year, people wear their new clothes and visit family and friends. Children will receive red packets filled with “lucky” money. That’s one of my favorite parts of this festival. It’s my favorite festival because I enjoy spending time with my relatives. It makes me feel very happy and loved to be with my family!
Yours truly

Dear Meiping,
I heard that you don’t know many English words. And I was really worried about that, because you may not understand what I wrote. But you mustn’t be afraid, you should never lose heart and never give up. There are three good way, I think they can help you.
1. First, I think you should read more funny stories or
interesting magazines, so that you won’t be bored and it’s easy for you to pay attention to English for a long time. In fact, I think the more you read, the more you will learn.
2. Second, I think when you read, you must find some words you don’t know. But it doesn’t matter, you can read the sentences before and after the word. It’ll help you to guess the meaning of the words. And if you really can’t get the meaning, it’s also a good idea to use the dictionary. During the course of studying, don’t ask others about the words or sentences. Because I believe that the less you think by yourself, the more foolish you will be.
3. In my opinion, I think that memorizing different English
words is your biggest problem. So I think making word cards is very
useful for you. The word cards don’t only let you memorize the words, it also can give you the visual signal. And they’re easy to make too.
I promise, if you do like these, you will make a rapid progress in English and fall in love with this funny language. At last, good luck to you!
