英语首字母何时需要大写

你要参加考试,得个好分数吗?你要撰写电子邮件,给老板甚至全公司的同事看吗?
你能将英语字母的大小写分清楚吗?比如“指环王”的英文名字“The Lord of the Rings”,为什么第一个the 首字母大写,后面的不需要,为什么of 首字母又不要大写?
如果是平时聊天就算了,但是在正式的场合中写英语,必须要注意英语字母的大写问题。比如你在雅思的考卷上写“china ”,在电子邮件里写“mr smith”。前者会让你丢分,后者则会让你丢人……
所以,作为一个“强迫症”,或是对自己“有要求”的人来说,掌握英语字母何时大写何时不大写的规律是很有必要的。今天,我就为你搜罗了11个英语字母大写的规律,看看你是不是能正确地使用它们吧?
1. 一句话的第一个单词首字母要大写。
如:S he is my sister.
2. 表示称呼或职务的词首字母大写,人名要大写。
如:M s. Wang is P rof. Z hao ’s sister.
注意:(1) 名称在名字之前,字母大写; (2) 名称在名字之后,字母小写; 如:We are pleased to introduce P resident O bama .
The conference will be led by Bill Gates, the chairman of Microsoft.
3. 大部分的缩写都需要大写。
如:I ’ve lost my ID card.
4. I和OK 无论何时何地都需要大写。
如:I ’m OK with your idea.
5. 专有名词(如人名、 地名、 公司名、 国家名、 语言、 组织机构名、 专业术语、重要的事件和项目等等)的首字母大写。
如:I know Jack lives in S hanghai , C hina .
The G orge Washington B ridge .
I ndependence D ay.
缩写和基于专有名词的缩写时,所有字母大写。
如:NBC is also known as the National Broadcasting Company.
但是,当组织机构的名字没有被明确指出时,不需要首字母大写(大写其实就是为了强调)。
如:John is an officer with the N ew Y ork P olice D epartment , the largest municipal police department in the United States.
注:大多数情况下,派生词不需要大写。
如:The P enicillium fungus is used to make penicillin .
6. 将亲戚作为称呼语时首字母大写。
如:Thank you, M um .
7. 语言、民族或其形容词的首字母大写。
如:I have an A ustralian friend who can speak C hinese perfectly.
9. 星期、 月份、 节假日(节日名称的第一个实词首字母)的首字母要大写。 如:Today is the fourth T hursday of N ovember .
The S pring F estival is the most important holidays in China. 但是:季节不需要大写。
如:Carol is going to Vail, Colorado, this winter .
10. 引用和标题
在引用的话语中,句子第一个单词首字母大写。
如:He said “N o one can escape from here”.
如果引用书、电影或歌曲的名字,首字母大写,但是所有的冠词和介词需小写。 如:Jenny said "D ances with W olves " is her favorite Kevin Costner movie.
标题文字中的每个实词首字母大写(比如下文中of 、and 、the 之类的冠词和介词就不是实词)。
如:”The L ord of the R ings ” is my favorite movie.
11. 方位名词大写。
当用方位词指示一个地理区域时大写。
如:Growing up in a military family, Hunter spent many years in the Far E ast .
但是:在指示基本方向时,不需要大写。
如:The storm is moving north at 17 miles per hour.
