They say that soon, we will be able to receive more than 500 television networks on cable
or by satellite. Some people think that it‘s useless to have that many channels. Their usual criticism(批评) goes something like this: "I already get more channels on my TV than I have time to watch. No one needs to see that much TV. There‘s not enough time in the day to watch all that!"They also say that most of what‘s on television now isn‘t worth watching in the first place.
I think they‘re missing the point. If the local library wanted to add another 5,000 books, would we say, "That‘s silly, we‘ll never have time to read all those books"? The point is that we would have more choices.
I don‘t believe that most people should watch more television. And if we had 500 or even 1,000 channels to choose from, we wouldn‘t have to spend more time watching TV. We would, however, have more programs to choose from. That means that the quality of our viewing time would be improved.
I think the more channels we have, the better. Give me more choices! If they‘re not worth my time, I‘ll just hit the "off" button.
56. The purpose of writing this passage is to ______. A. make a suggestion B. express an opinion
C. give important information D. complain about cable television 57. From the passage we know that the author wants to ______. A. read more books B. rent more TV sets C. have more choices D. watch more sports 58. What does the phrase "hit the 'off‘ button" refer to?
A. Go to the library. B. Switch over the TV channels. C. Turn off the TV. D. Have more TV networks.

The American turkey is famous for some of its characteristics. The bird can run at a speed of more than 20 miles per hour, and it can fly in short bursts at a speed of more than 50 miles per hour. Turkeys have excellent eyesight and hearing. If they have a sharp sense of smell, they would be almost impossibly forgetful.
There are two signs of turkey presence. One is their V-like scratches(抓痕) while getting food. And the other is the male turkey‘s beaks, which are the size of a small finger with a bend at one end, like the letter ―J‖.
Native Americans in the Southwest and Mexico kept turkeys for feathers and food, and the birds with their alarm calls probably were good ―watch dogs‖ as well. The Indians used the feathers in ceremonies, and used the feathers to form blankets. They hollowed out the large leg bones to serve as whistles.
The Spanish transported wild turkeys from Mexico to Europe for domestication(驯养) in the 16th century. European settlers brought domesticated turkeys back to the New World. Finally, local decrease of wild turkeys paralleled(平衡) the European settlers‘ spread across America. Today, widespread re-introduction programs are under way to return the five species of wild turkeys to their native habitats.
In the late 1770‘s, Benjamin Franklin suggested that the turkey should be the symbol for the United States. He argued that the Bald Eagle was no better than a fish-eater. The American turkey lost to the Bald Eagle by a single congressional vote. 63. The turkey is most famous for _____. A. its sharp sense of smell B. its excellent eyesight

[ 1 ] Do you spend over an hour each day texting messages to your friends? Do you
frequently ignore work, study, and other activities to check your phone for messages? Are you anxious and restless if you are separated from your mobile phone?Do you hardly ever use your phone to talk any more, and do your thumbs hurt from texting too much? [2] If_________________________, then it is very possible that you are a textaholic. A textaholic can be defined as someone who is addicted to sending and receiving messages. The main symptoms are a strong desire to text messages, which takes precedence (优先)over everything else, and bad moods, low spirits and a lack of self-confidence if messages fail to come in. The root of the problem, as with many addictions, is the desire to escape from emotional difficulties such as stress, anxiety and relationship problems. Experts warn that text addiction is likely to become the most common form of addiction in the future, especially among the young. [3] So what can you do if you think you may be a textaholic? The key is to get your life back in balance. Make sure you resist the urge to answer every message you receive, and consider leaving your mobile phone behind occasionally when you go out. Most importantly, make a point of spending quality time with friends and family, and make time to re-learn the art of face-to-face conversation instead of conducting your relationships by means of text messages. Not only will you save time and money, but you may also rediscover the pleasure of true communication.
