The Woods in My Hometown
When I was a little girl, I lived in a village. On my way to school, there were woods. Every time I rambled through the woods, I felt the freedom that nature brought to me. They were my secret gardens to escape from the sadness. No matter it was spring, summer, autumn or winter, the woods presented beautiful sceneries and left me unforgettable memories.
In spring, everything in the woods grew as merrily as the heart of a child and everywhere was full of life. When April brought the first flush of grass and the first bud on the tree, it gave a sign of spring. The river beside the woods melted itself into a little fresh spring, running and singing the song of spring. In a splendid day, the surface of the water was rippled in the breeze. Sometimes, the flowers bud stretched themselves harder in the gentle wind and drizzling rain. They were so eager to give the spring day more beauty. As I walked in the quiet woods, the sun was shinning and a soft breeze was blowing into my face. At that moment, I closed my eyes, listening with my heart to capture the whisper of the nature.
In summer, the woods were a paradise for all the living creatures. The flowers were blooming in all colors. Some clustered like a small carpet. Some stood alone gracefully. Blue, red and black butterflies sat on the grass. They spread and
vibrated their wings all the time. After sitting for some times, they flied suddenly, chasing after each other. They flied over the grass joyfully. In the grass,
grasshoppers and other insects were jumping everywhere. The trees were wide spreading. They cast a pleasant shade. After lunch, many children gathered under the shade of the tree, some chatting, and some playing hide-and-seek in the bushes. The birds joined them by choiring in the trees. Of all the things in summer, I liked the rain best. The smell of rain gave me refreshment. It cleaned away the dirt. After the rain, everything seems brighter like my mood. The holy and beauty of the woods made my heart throb with pleasure.
In autumn the woods held a big party for everything in it to say goodbye. The multi-colored leaves fell slowly earthward, turning and turning. They paved a golden road for me. Some leaves fell on the burbling water, floating towards the distance. The sky was crystal clear, as blue as the calm sea. The sun shined through the branches and dazzled my eyes. The birds flew among the trees,
hovered and twittered, giving their paradise the last sight. Then they would fly to the south. In the yellow grass, small animals were busy storing food for the winter. All the lives in the woods were cheerful and busy. Red maples, green pines, brown rocks, blue sky and the colorful leaves formed a refreshing picture.
In winter, the snow gave the woods a particular kind of beauty. Sometimes the snow drifts all night long, on the river, on the meadows, on the trees. In the morning, the whole world changed white. I trod briskly along the lonely path, crunching the dry and crisped snow under my feet. The snow was as soft as
feathers. Breathing deeply, I felt that there was little water in the air, all being dried up or iced. I looked up, seeing the sun shining between the branches and the trunks of the bare trees which was planted in regular lines. The genial sunshine poured upon me and filled my body with its warmth. There were always one or two snowmen standing at the edge of woods. They were built by the children who lived near the woods. I seemed to hear their laughter spreading through the whole woods.
Although the sceneries in the woods were quite different in each season, they all gave me good memories. Because of the woods, I had a happy childhood. Now I am studying in the city. When I am tired of the boring and busy city life, I really eager to return the secluded woods, slow down my pace, and embrace the magical nature.
