Golden week and Holiday economy
Summary:Holiday economy is caused by holidays especially the Golden Week.It is a comprehensive economic model in wich people use holiday focus on shopping, tourism and other consumer behavior.Thus,it can promote the supply increases, market prosperity and the economic development.But at the same time golden week and holiday economy also brings a lot of problems.

In 1997-1998, “the Asian financial crisis”,China's economy suffered serious impact.The government put forward “to encourage consumption, expand domestic demand ” economic policy. In September 1999, the state council issued the new legal holiday system. “Golden week ” was born.There are two important economic phenomenons in holiday economy:tourism consumption and promotion phenomenon.As we know tourist attractions are full of visitors in golden week.During the 7-day golden week holiday, traveling has already become an indispensable part of people’s relaxation activities. The lengthy holidays have caused unexpected great travel craze and brisk economic activities. Holiday spending, however, adds fuel to the Chinese economy, which in turn leads to the creation of a new term “holiday economy” and it sparks a hot debate about it.But the supply of tourism resources is unable to meet consumer demand at this time. Certainly,prices rise about the tourism consumption during holiday. we can also make analysis of price elasticity of supply and demand.For example,Holiday travel main group is the urban population,Relative high income population.High earners ’ price elasticity of demand is small,businesses raise prices in order to make their own income maximum......
Then,how about the promotion phenomenon of holiday economy?Why tourism industry prices rise , but lots of other consumer goods, such as electronics are sold at lower prices? Various factors comprehensively effect:national policy incentives,sellers reduce prices to attract consumers,concentrated consumption of consumer psychology,demand Increases and some other economic reasons.The possibility of consumption increase because these all.
Holiday economy has so many characteristics as below:Occurrence of time feature is apparent, all is in the vacation period longer holidays and weekends;Sudden and stage;Consumer groups are widely;Consumption point to relative concentration,Major is tourism consumption; Consumer class presents multi-level characteristics; Purpose of consumption is diversity.
Some economists are in favor of the golden week economy. They believe it has many advantages. First, tourism-based holiday economy will raise consumption, up spending and, therefore, help to spur the domestic demand. In addition, it benefits tourism, transportation, catering, hotels and service industries and enables them to thrive during holidays, which in turn adds fuel to the overall economic growth. It can also improve the people's material and cultural life level,then expose the urban management and social service system problems .
However, others overstate its disadvantages and hold that it brings undeniable
problems. First, the travel craze puts a heavy burden on the traffic system, causing serious traffic jams. Besides, thousands and thousands of tourists flood scenic spots, jamming railway stations and airports, causing some over crowdedness and safety problems.Then,the overload leads to the environment is destroyed and has a negative influence on some industries(Substitution effect. ).Therefore, we shouldn’t neglect the new problems.
I believe its advantages far outweigh its disadvantages. After all, it greatly benefits our overall economy. Finally, i suggest the government take effective measures to solve the aforementioned problems. For example,Create a good consumption environment ,Increase people's income expectations(Reform: Tax, health care, education, housing, social insurance ),desalinate holiday economy, advocate leisure consumption and so on.Only in this way can we let the golden week economy develop in a sound way.
