Enable students to know much about the world Expo as well as Expo Shanghai 2010 and arouse their love and proud of motherland. This will also make the world more harmonious and peaceful.

Teaching procedure:
Step1: Leading in
Show a short video about Shanghai Expo 2010 before the class, and then when the class begins, ask some questions about it to arouse the students’ interest.
Do you know the city in the short video?
What is the greatest thing that happened in this city in 2010?
What did you see and how do you feel after watching the short video just now? How much do you know about world Expo?
Show the signs about Expos held in different cities.
Step2: Pre-reading
It seems that you are interested in Expo. Now let’s learn more about it.
Do you know where the first Expo was held?
What effects does Expo bring to the world?
Step3: Reading
Before reading, we’ve got to learn about some words and expressions about Expo What is the theme of Shanghai Expo 2010?
What does the theme represent?
What is the mascot of Shanghai Expo 2010?
How much do you know about the mascot?
What about the emblem of Expo 2010 Shanghai China?
Take out mascot, emblem to get students to have a pair work. (ask some questions about them)
Step4: Detailed reading
What interests you most in Expo 2010 Shanghai China ? (museum)
When is the grand opening day of the China Pavilion?
How much do you know about the design of the the China Pavilion?
What does it look like?
What are the philosophies of Expo 2010 Shanghai China?
How do you understand the philosophies? (group discussion)
What is the influence of Expo 2010 Shanghai China?
Step5: Discussion
Supposing you were a citizen in Shanghai, you have gone through the changes in Shanghai before and after Expo 2010, can you make a dialogue with your partener about it? You partner is a journalist.
Step6: Consolidation
Show students several pictures about museums from other countries.
Get students to make their speeches according to the following topic:
Divide the class into two groups, one stands for foreigners, the other stands for Chinese citizens. Make conversations and help the foreign visitors deal with the problems they meet in China.
Step7: Homework
Surf the internet, and collect some information about the Expo 2010 museums in different countries. And then list out what you see and feel.
