Unit One
1. 与add有关的短语
add to: “增添; 增加”,其宾语多为困难、欢乐等抽象名词。
The bad weather added to our difficulties. 恶劣的天气增加了我们的困难。
add„-to„ 把-„加到„上
Please add a note to the posters. 请在海报上再加上一条。
add up to “加起来总共是,总计为”,后接合计起来的数目。(不用于被动语态)
The whole school education added up to no more than one year.他所受的全部学校教育加起来不超过一年。
2. not „until„ 直到„才„
till 与until辨析
① until和 till同义为 直到…… ,till多用于口语,until可以放在句首,till不能。
② until和till用于肯定句中,主句的谓语动词必须是延续性动词。表示这一动作或状态一直延续到until和till所表示的时间为止。
这些动词有:live wait last work等。He watched TV until /till midnight last night.
③ until和till用于否定句中,其句型为not„until„ 意为“直到„ 才„”或“在„之前(没有)”通常与非延续性的动词连用。强调主句所表示的状态或动作从until/till所表示的时间才发生,主句必须是否定句。
④ 若“not until + 时间状语”位于句首,则主句用部分倒装,即把助动词、系动词或情态动词提到主语的前面。
Not until the film began did they come. 直到电影开场他们才来。
3. get 做使役动词的常用结构
get sb/ sth doing sth 使某人一直做某事
get sb to do sth (= have / make/ let sb do sth) 使/ 让某人做某事
Don’t get Tony waiting you outside all the time. 不要让托尼一直在外面等你。
Our teacher got us to finish our homework. 老师让我们完成作业。
have 做使役动词时,与get做使役动词的用法类似,主要用于以下三种结构:
have sth done 让某事被做 have sb do sth 使某人做某事
have sb doing sth 使某人一直做某事
4. upset 有两个词性 adj. 与 vt.
adj. 心烦意乱的,不安的, 不适的 be upset about sb/ sth 对某事或某人感到不安
(做adj.,不可置于名词前作定语)
vt. 使不安,使心烦
worried: 焦急的; anxious: 担忧的; nervous: 紧张的
5. ignore vt. 不理睬,忽视
ignorant adj. 无知的,没有学识的
ignorance n. 无知,愚昧
be ignorant of 对------不了解
be in ignorance of sth 不知某事,对某事不了解
6. calm „down„ (使)平静下来;(使)镇定下来
calm有两个词性 adj. 与vt.
辨析calm, still, silent, quiet
calm: 指无风浪的或人心情不激动。
still: “静止的”,指无动作或停止运动的状态,强调静止的状态。
silent: “沉默的”,指没有声音或不说话。
quiet: “安静的”,也指内心不烦躁。
7. have got to , have to 与must辨析
① have got to 与have to 都侧重客观上某种情形的需要或别人的看法或意见,有人称、时态和数的变化。
② have got to 的否定形式为:haven’t got to; have to 的否定形式为:don’t have to (不必)。 用于疑问句时,前者have提前,后者要借助于助动词do/ does/ did.
③ 表示一次性动作时,have got to 与have to 可互换;但当表示习惯性动作时,尤其是句中含有always, often, sometimes 等频度副词时,则应用have to, 不用have got to.
④ must 侧重说话人的主观看法或意见,无人称、时态和数的变化。must的否定形式mustn’t表示“禁止”。
8. be concerned about/ for “关心;挂念”
concern有两个词性 vt. (使)担忧;涉及;关系到
n. 担心;关注;(利害)关系
与concern相关的短语:
be concerned with / in 参与;与„有关
concern sb/ sth 与„有关;关系着„
as / so far as „be concerned 就„而言

10. 状语从句的省略
While, when, until, if, unless, though等引导的状语从句,如果其主语和主句的主语一致且谓语含有be动词或为it is/ was时, 从句中的主语和be动词可以省略。
While walking the dog, you were careless and it got loose and was hit by a car.
(while连词, 引导时间状语从句)
→ While you were walking the dog, 表示其动作与谓语动词的动作同时发生。
When (we are )working with the workers, we learned a lot from them.
If (it is)necessary, we’ll have a meeting.
※(注意: 从句中的主语和谓语动词是主动关系时,用动词-ing形式;从句中的主语和谓语动词是被动关系时,则用动词-ed形式。)
Although (he was)invited, he didn’t come.
11. cheat vi. 作弊 vt. 欺骗,欺诈 n. 骗子, 作弊者
cheat in/ at / on 在„中作弊
cheat sb (out)of sth 骗取某人某物
cheat sb into doing sth 骗某人做某事
12. should have done 本应该做某事而实际没做, 表示说话人一种责备的口气
shouldn’t have done 本不该做某事而做了某事
“情态动词+have done” 的用法:
must have done„ 一定做过„
can/ could have done„ 本来能够做某事,而实际上未做
can’t/ couldn’t have done„ 不可能做过„
ought to have done„ 本该做某事而实际上并没有做
13. reason n. 理由,原因,理性

reason + why / that 引导定语从句
the reason is + that 引导的表语从句

14. crazy adj. 疯狂的;愚蠢的;狂热的;着迷的
be crazy to do sth. (某人)做某事是疯狂的

两者常可换用,但有以下区别:
① 当非善意地用手指某人时,只能用point at。
② 当用语言指出某事时,应用point to。
③ 当表示指针指向、证据表明、建筑物的朝向时,要用point to。
20. face to face 面对面地 (在句中作状语,常与with搭配)

辨析 to, in order to和so as to
三者后接动词原形,作目的状语的用法一致,但so as to不可用于句首引导目的状语,
只可用于句中。
23. dare vt. “敢;胆敢; 敢于面对”
情态动词, “敢;胆敢”
① 作情态动词时,没有人称和数的变化,但有时态变化,后接动词原形。
② 作行为动词时,后接to do,否定句、疑问句中to 可以省略。
24. 难句:You are taking your end-of-term exam. 你将要参加期末考试。
本句中:现在进行时表示将来按计划要进行的动作。
能这样用的动词有:arrive, come, go, get, have, leave, return, sleep,
stay, start, travel, work, play, wear, give, move等。
25. set down 记下,写下 = write down
set about ( doing )sth. 着手(做)某事
set off 动身,出发,引爆,燃放
set out 出发,着手做
set up 竖起,创设,开办
set forward 提出,拨快(钟表)
26. pay to do sth. 花钱做某事
pay for „ 为„付款
pay sb. for„ 为„付款给某人
pay money for „ 为------付款
pay sb. money for„ = pay money to sb. for-„ 为------付款给某人
pay sb. money to do sth. 付款让某人做某事
27. 句型:It (this)is / was the first (second, third„)time that sb. have / had done sth. 是一常用句型。意为:某人第一(二、三„)次做某事。that引导的是定语从句,
that可以省略,从句中的时态必须用完成时态。
例句:This is the third time ( that ) you have been late this week.
28. 强调句型:It is / was + 被强调的部分 + that / who + 其他成分。
可以强调:主语;宾语;地点状语;时间状语
① 强调状语时,只能用that,而不能用where/ when/why等;强调人时,可以用that/ who/ whom ② 原句的时态是一般过去时、过去进行时、过去完成时,用“It was„”,其他时态用“It is„”。 ③ 强调句型的判断:去掉It is/ was „that结构不会对句子结构的完整有影响。
29. happen to do sth. 碰巧,恰好做某事
It’s no use doing sth 做某事没有用处
It’s no good doing sth. 做某事没有好处
It’s no need doing sth. 做某事没有必要
