浅析网络语言的产生及其社会影响
摘要:本文基于模因论和“隐藏的文本”这一概念,使用对比分析法对英汉网络语言进行研究。在分析网络语言的起因,构词法和影响后,我们发现英汉网络语言拥有诸多共同点。然而,汉语网络语言以其对语言运用、语言教育和社会心理的影响而更具特殊性。以汉语新造词来说,论文试图探索这些新词是如何反映大众心理以及其多样化的影响,并得出结论:网络语言是社会发展的产物,我们应关注其影响。同时,通过恰当的措施,促使其规范化的发展。

The Production and Social Impacts of Internet Language
Abstract: This paper, based on Richard Dawkin’s memetics theory and James C. Scott’s analytic concept of the hidden transcripts, makes a comparative study of the internet language in English and Chinese contexts. By analyzing this kind of language in chat rooms, twitter and other cyber environments with regard to years’ researches, specifically about its causes, formation and impacts, we find several similarities of English and Chinese internet language. First, they are both innovative, economical and colloquial. Besides, the formation shares similar features, which falls into three types: semantic, phonological and grammatical ones. But the Chinese internet language distinguishes itself in its peculiar impacts on language use, Chinese education and social mentality. Take the newly-coined Chinese words in network culture as a case, the thesis attempts to figure out how those words reveal the social mentality and their various impacts, as well as the different attitudes toward them. This research arrives at the conclusion that the internet language is born of the social development and its impacts should be paid due attention to, which need to be formalized through proper initiatives.

1. Introduction
1.1. Research Background
The internet was born in America in 1969, which was initially used in military field. In 1990’s, it gradually transformed from government -dominant issue to
commercial use and afterwards, the internet developed rapidly. It was in 1994 that China was officially connected to the internet. The rate of more than forty-five percent use by the end of 2013 well demonstrates that the internet, in effect, has affected nearly half of the Chinese’s lives. Recently, the emergence of smart phones bring about the popularity of social zones like twitter and microblog, making it more convenient to send instant messages.
The internet has influenced the society, especially the citizens’ lives, as well as our language. To begin with, internet language referred to computer language. Nevertheless, with the internet becoming wide-spread, when communicating, people tend to quicken the typing speed to fully express their emotions. Therefore, a special kind of language that is different from the traditional ones comes into being.
Since the internet language was born, it has received the appreciation of the netizens and even spread quickly in the reality, in the meantime, falling into application widely. The social zones, newly-coined words along with hot words become the new methods of information circulation, which change the way of verbal communication, have tremendous impacts on people’s thinking, lives, concepts, interests, mentality and living habits. In correspond with the changes, the relevant new words appear, playing essential roles in our lives.
1.2. Research Significance
In theoretical aspects, firstly, though the research on internet language has become a hot topic in academia, in effect, most of the researches are restricted to some micro-scale problems. When the analysis comes to the words, it is usually about the English corpus but little about the Chinese. Accordingly, this paper will analyze the English and Chinese internet language characteristics comparatively. Secondly, to study those new words is necessary to develop the bilingual lexicon. Thus, how to reveal the features of the words and how to utilize them are important tasks for us.
In practical aspects, firstly, studying internet language can promote the cyber communication of netizens. The lack of knowledge about internet language will undoubtedly hinder the utilization of internet, getting the way of cyber communication. Besides, the special sentence patterns and language style, to some
