Now I’m going to answer some of your questions. You asked me about the weather in Beijing in winter. It’s quite cold and it often snows in winter. And I can skate. It’s very interesting to skate. I like winter best.
You ’d better come to Beijing in spring of in fall. It’s often too hot in summer and too cold in winter. I have to finish this letter now. Welcome to Beijing.

Passage 16 Magic Change
Tony is a little duck. He is small, dirty and ugly. His friends don’t like to play with him. One day, Tony was very sad and ran to the river and cried loud ly. Just then, a big beautiful bird heard him crying and flew(fly 的过去式)down. She said, “ please don’t cry. Tell me, what do you want? I can help you.”
Tony told the truth. The beautiful bird said, “ OK, I can help you become a good-looking duck. ” Then, the duck became a good-looking duck. Tony was very happy. He thanked the big bird and quickly went to play with his friends.
Passage 17 Sandwich Story
Sandwich was an Englishman. He lived in the 18th century. Sandwich was rich, but he liked to play cards for money. He often played for 24 hours, and didn’t even stop to have his meals. He ordered his servents to bring some meat and bread. He out the meat between the two pieces of bread and held the food in his left hand while he played cards with his right hand. People liked Sandwich ’s idea, and from then on they ate bread and meat and called this food Sandwich.
Passage 18 Three Gardens
Mr. Green has a small garden in front of his house. There are lots of flowers and a few trees in it. His neighbor Mr. Black has a garden, too. Mr. Black’s garden is smaller than Mr. Green’s. He has fewer flowers than Mr. Black, but more trees.
Mr. Brown is Mr. Green’s another neighbor. Mr. Brown’s garden is the smallest garden of the three. He has the fewest flowers of them all, nut there are lots of weeds in his garden. Mr. Brown doesn ’t have enough time to work in his garden. So his garden is the worst.
Passage 19 Animals Home
Everybody has a home. People have homes. Animals also have homes. People live in many different kinds of houses. Animals have different kinds of homes, too.
Some animals live in holes under the ground. The woodchuck lives under the ground. His home has two doors. If an enemy comes into one door, the woodchuck goes out through the other. Some animals live in holes in trees. Some squirrels build nests high in trees. Some birds live in holes in trees. Most of birds live in nests. Crows build their nests high in trees. But hawks build their nests high above the mountains.
Passage 20 The house of 1,000 Mirrors
Long ago in a small village, there was a place known as the House of 1,000 Mirrors. A happy little dog decided to visit it. When he arrived, to his great surprise, he found himself staring at 1,000 other happy little dogs. Their tails wagged just as fast as his. He smiled a great smile, and he saw 1,000dogs with warm and friendly smiles, too. When he left the house, he thought to himself, “ this is a wonderful place. I will come back and visit it often.”
