Pride and Prejudice
I have read a book, Pride and Prejudice, for few months ago, which is written by Jane Austen in 1796.It not only perfectly reflected the relation between money and marriage in eighteenth century but also created lots of vivid characters and significant scene.
The novel mainly told the love story between Elizabeth and Darcy. Darcy was a noble, pride and rich single man, and Elizabeth was a smart, prejudiced and poor single woman. They met at a country ball. They went through lots of difficult and fell in love with each others gradually. In the end they were get married.
And it also described Bentley, best friend of Darcy and Elizabeth's elder sister Jane ’s love story as the second role in the novel. Similarly, they have faced tough ordeal before been together as well.
It ’s not difficult to remind us of that there is a long distance between rich and poor people to get married in eighteenth century, but they did. What a tough
relationship it is. I like Darcy best for his qualities of honesty, calm mind and good behavior. He is such a real gentleman.
“Everyone knows that a single man with a large fortune needs a wife. As soon as such a man enters a neighbourhood, therefore he is at once considered as the future husband of one of his neighbours’ daughters. “
This is my favorite paragraph for two reasons. The first one is it ’s reflected that many people based their happiness on fortune and status in that times. The second reason is we can infer that Darcy and Elizabeth ’s love encouraged others to find their true love bravely by setting an example.
According to the novel, the main topic is that the marriage should be based on true love, but not status or possession. By the description and discussion of the four marriages in the novel, we can find that easily. The marriage based on social position and money can not raise a happy life, but aimless marriage and love are out of real life. As far as I am concerned, a happy marriage
not only founded on the basis of mutual understanding and true love, but also founded on the basis of same belief and close educational background, both sides are important.
