-----------++++++++----------------------------ENGLISHSKY------------------------------------+++++++++------ Poem Time
When you are old and grey and full of sleep ,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read ,and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once , and of their shadows deep ;
How many lobed your moments of glad grace
And loved your beauty with lobe false or true ,
But one man lobed the pilgrim Soul in you ,
And lobed the sorrows of your changing face
And bending down beside the glowing bars
Murmur , a little sadly ,how love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

P :Hello , dear audience. Welcome to this week’s English Sky on Hunan institute of technology broadcasting station . I’m your host PengChen.
Y: Hi ,I’m Yibing .
P:Yibing , there are just very few times left for us to broadcast.
Y:Yes… I really don’t want to say goodbye to our broadcasting station and English sky. As time goes away , I found that I had improved a lot due to the one-year broadcasting ,like my oral English . and I’ve got to know how to be an English broadcaster little by little..
P:Yes . What you said is really impressive .Anyway, we are lucky for we get the chance to be a member of the broadcasting station for a whole year . It’s time for some freshmen to be in front of the microphone , just like what we did a year ago. Y: Exactly ! All right , dear audience , please join us in a minute in the slang pocket and stay tuned !
Slang pocket
P:dear audience , welcome to the slang pocket.. 。
Y :yep, and the first slang for today's slang pocket is ---smell fishy..
P:yep , smell fishy。。。 。for example : It appeared to be a real bargain , but i smelled something fishy because the man was in such a hurry to sell it . I was right --later on ,I found out the car was stolen.
for example: Linda said when her husband started working late three or four times a week, she would smell a rat ...LINDA
P :well , smell fishy ,觉得不对头,let's take a look at a dialogue.
Y: His explanation definnitely smells fishy ; my guess is that he is lying .
P:But it's unneccessary for him to lie.
Y: No . waht you see is just a tip of the iceberg.
P:all right ,smell fishy ,
Y:smell fishy ,觉得不对头-----and the next slang is See eye to eye...
P:yep, See eye to eye.....see eye to eye 。。
Y :see eye to eye的另外一种表达是SEE IN THE SAME LIGHT ....for example : My father and i see in the same light on
most things ... 。。
P :well ,see eye to eye 看法相同;意见一致....let's take a look at a dialogue...
Y: Andrew married Ida. I can't believe it!
P :I suppose on good reason for them to get married is that they see eye to eye on just about everything .
Y:all right ...see eye to eye
P :see eye to eye 看法相同;意见一致----and the next slang is Screw around ..
。for example : I f you boys would stop screwing around we'd have the fence painted in an hour.. 。。。
P :大家要注意的是, Screw around 这个俚语还经常可以跟WITH 连用,翻译成 瞎摆弄, for example : Stop screwing around with the new camera.. 。
Y : all right , screw around 胡闹;不做正经事...let's take a look at a dialogue ...
P :A piece of advice. don't screw around with her. She's got a terrible temper.
Y : She does? But she looks like a sweet little angel...
P :all right , screw around
Y :screw around 胡闹;不做正经事---and the next slang is Rock the boat...
。。比如: BURN ONE'S BOATS 破釜沉舟, IN THE SAME BOAT 同处困境。。。
P :well, Rock the boat 找麻烦...let's take a look at a dialogue...
Y:Don't rock the boat ! Things are fine just the way they are.
P : I hate to rock the boat , but I do think we need to rewrite this report...
Y: okay ,Rock the boat
P:Rock the boat 找麻烦----and the last slang for today's slang pocket is ---rake in the dough..
Y: D-O-U-G-H dough 作为俚语有“钱”的意思,而RAKE 表示耙,在钱堆里耙钱 rake in the dough不赚翻才怪。。!!
A KILLING , 还有roll in dough 、swallow in dough、 and have money to burn。。。
Y : all right ,rake in the dough 赚大钱, let's take a look at a dialogue...
P : how 's your business?
Y: good, very good .. We just put out new designer shoes on the market and they're selling like hot cakes .
P : really? You must be raking in the dough , then ....
Y: well, rake in the dough
P: rake in the dough
Y: then , dear audience , have you got the 5 slang we shared with you today ? They are ....smell fishy 觉得不对头...see eye to eye 看法相同;意见一致...screw around 胡闹;不做正经事.....Rock the boat 找麻烦..and rake in the dough 赚大钱
P: dear audience , please join us in a minute in the Chat room , stay with us ...
Chat Room
P: When it comes to dieting, everyone wants to be sleek and slim, but even though I always claim to be on a diet, I just can’t muster up the strength to really say no to the foods I love
Y: I know dieting sounds so dull and self-depriving, but it doesn’t have to be, you know
P:Yeah, right..
Y:I’m serious, in fact I’ve decided that’s what we’ll talk about in today’s world kaleidoscope: dieting tips! Slimming down is not this giant vacuum of the pleasures of eating, if you think it is a menacing pit, then think again. There is a host of smart dieting tricks out there to fool your body into burning extra fat.
P:Well, I have to admit it does sound tempting. What they are all about, don’t be so discreet!
Y:Of course I’m more than happy to share. Besides our conventional low-fat, low carb diets, and pills, which I vow to stay away from, here are some schemes to fat proof your life!
P: But the number one priority is to stay healthy and strong, sleek and slim comes only second, can we agree to that?
Y:Deal. Let’s get started. Besides drinking plenty of water a day to keep metabolism levels up, and eating a energy packed breakfast, you could also try moving your meals forward an hour or two
P: So does that mean I’ll have breakfast at 6 am, lunch at 10 and dinner at 4?
Y: That’s right, because your metabolism reaches its peak from 10 to 12 am.
P:I’m not sure it will fit into my schedule, but I’ll give it a shot whenever it’s possible. I’ve heard that it works better to break three meals a day in to 5 or six meals, is it true?
Y: Your sources are reliable! It’s important to not let your stomach go completely empty. This drives your body to store fat, and most likely you will eat more than you need due to your hunger pangs.
P: Besides speeding up metabolism with plenty of rest and drinking lots of fluids, and of course maintaining a high fiber low fat diet, are there any special dieting plans?
Y: You bet! But let me say first that they are not for everyone. It’s not smart to push your body to its limits.
P:I understand, I’ll try to keep a clear head
Y: Most popularly known, we have that cucumber and egg diet. You start by eating as many cucumbers and eggs as you feel you need, without being stuffed, of course. Then, you decrease the intake of both these foods until you have only one cucumber and one egg per meal by the end of the week.
P: So how long do I have to keep this up? Eating the same two foods over and over again sounds like a nightmare!
Y: No worries! By the end of the first week, you can start adding bread or raw fruits and vegetables into your diet, but try to stick to cucumbers and eggs after four o’clock.
P: Is this guaranteed to work? I mean, is this even scientific?
Y: There’s no reason it shouldn’t. It is low in calories, so energy stored in body fats would need to be released. The protein in eggs speeds up the process of fat burning
P: If one week is all I need, maybe it isn’t too much of a sacrifice after all. This does remind me of a similar milk apple diet?
Y: There’s actually quite a bit of a difference. The milk apple diet has been categorized as a starvation diet, so there are many downs to it.
P: You eat normally five days of the week, and on the sixth day, you eat only apples, and on the seventh day, have nothing but milk. You cannot consume milk and apples together. The up side to this diet is that it only involves two days a week, and that’s not too aggressive
Y: Yeah. And since the majority of us are not excessively overweight or anything, I advise that we be flexible with any diet plan, maybe substituting apples for one or two meals instead of the entire day.
P: That sounds practical. So what other kinds of diets are there?
Y: The Kiwi diet is designed for healthy people who have a strong stomach. Supposedly, you can lose up to 2 kilos in four days time. But don’t go beyond four days.
P: So what’s the regime all about? Just kiwi and water?
Y: Well, bottom line, yes. In the course of a day, you can have 6 meals, one mid-morning, mid- afternoon and after dinner. P: And to accompany kiwi in each of these meals, you can choose from one container of yogurt, one bowl of broth and a cup of tea.
Y: That’s a really light meal. Speaking of yogurt, I hear that’s also a smart diet food. I read that compared to obese people who were given one serving of low-fat yogurt a day, those who ate yogurt three times a day lost 22% more weight, 61% more body fat, and 81% more stomach fat.So I guess with yogurt, it’s the more the better. No wonder it’s called the “French woman’s dieting secret”.
P: Enough is as good as a feast, as people say. Before you start to drain down the yogurt by the carton, make sure it isn’t loaded with sugar, fat and artificial ingredients. Make it a habit to read the nutrition label.
Y:Yeah, it’s always smart to know what you’re putting into your body. Keep up the habit, and you’ll always eat healthy. Another way to keep pounds off is the Hollywood diet
P: Sounds brilliant! Is it because all the stars are on it? It’s supposed to make people as fit as the people who live on Beverly
Hills, is that correct?
Y: Don’t get too excited, I think that’s just an appealing name for the grapefruit diet. This is where grapefruit accompanies each meal and carbohydrates are shunned
P: Does that mean no bread, rice or noodles?
Y:Neither are starchy veggies like corn or potatoes allowed. Not to mention extra sweet fruits and vegetables like carrots or corn. But you can indulge in protein and fat like bacon and eggs.
P: So in a day, I can have eggs and bacon for breakfast but no bread, and for lunch and dinner I can have chicken and fish and greens, but no rice, is that right?
Y: Don’t forget half a grapefruit with every meal! Studies show they are full of enzymes (酶) ,which act like catalyst(催化剂) and help start the fat burning process.
P: I’ve heard of something called a blood type diet, and I’ve had my doubts, what are your views?
Y: A diet for people according to their blood types? No, in fact that’s new for me, what’s it all about?
P: If you’re type O blood, then being the earliest human blood group, the time when people were hunters. So this plan claims people of this blood type eat foods higher in protein
Y: Nope, that’s not me. I can’t handle too much meat. What about type A?
P: Type A′s, on the other hand, were cultivators and ate more vegetarian foods. Type B′s were nomads, eating the widest range of foods and can best handle dairy foods. And AB’s are a cross between the two, requiring meat but in smaller portions.
Y: I have to admit this is a very interesting saying here, but I can see why it has been met with criticism. To begin with, the blood type evolution theory has a wobbly base. I won’t say it’s nonsense, but I won’t buy it either.
P:I guess you’re right. We’ve talked about so many diets relying on so healthy foods, but I’m wondering if there are any diets where you can cheat on sweets, and still slim down?
Y: In fact there is, like the peanut butter diet, the chocolate diet and the cookie diet. But don’t be fooled by their names. Instead of having a meal or snack, dieters eat a nutrient-enriched cookie or teaspoons of peanut butter, meant to satiate their appetite. In this way, dieters don’t feel deprived of the foods they love, and at the end of their diet, no binge eating. P : Well in the end, it sounds like we’re still just trying to fool our bodies into consuming less food.
Y: Come on, don’t be disheartened. Diets, like rules, are meant to be broken.
P: Then how on earth are we supposed to fit into the size 1 dress?
Y: Take things easily, as I said before, dieting is a way of life. Not that we go through round after round of fruitless diets in our life, but that we make the right choices whenever we have the chance to.
P: Like checking the nutrition label, choosing skim milk, going for diet coke if you must have one, and replacing seasonal fruits for processed foods with additives.
Y: Right. The important thing is to enjoy foods that make you feel and be lighter, and fall in love with the rewards. That’s what constitutes a virtuous circle.
P: Next thing you know, you’ll be going automatically for the fruits and yogurt instead of the popcorn and cookies.
Y: When we feel slim, we tend to be healthier and more energetic. So that’s all for today’s Chat Room, stick around for more on dieting, fresh views and opinions from people on campus!
Movie House
P: Welcome to the movie house for today. And we are going to introduce a movie produced by Warner Brothers to you . Y: Yes. And this movie is also about wedding. But the wedding in this movie is to some degree very wired . Am I right ? P: umm, yeah... because the bride is a corpse. Now, I guess some of our audience has known the movie.....Yes, it’s Corpse Bride..
Y:In an unnamed fictional late Victorian Era European village, possibly in England, Victor, the son of fish merchants, and Victoria, the neglected daughter of hateful aristocrats who have lost their money, are preparing for their arranged marriage, which will raise the social class of Victor's parents and restore the wealth of Victoria's.
P: Both have concerns about marrying someone they do not know, but they fall in love when they first meet. After the shy, clumsy Victor ruins the wedding rehearsal and is scolded at by pastor Galswells, he flees and practices his wedding vows in the nearby forest, placing the wedding ring on a nearby upturned tree root.
Y : But suddenly, the root turns out to be the finger of a dead young woman clad in a tattered bridal gown, who rises from the grave claiming that she is now Victor's wife.
P: Spirited away to the surprisingly festive Land of the Dead, the bewildered Victor learns the story of Emily, his new "bride," murdered years ago on the night of her secret elopement. Meanwhile, Victoria's parents hear that Victor has been seen in another woman's arms, and become suspicious.
Y: Wanting to reunite with Victoria, Victor tricks Emily into taking him back to the Land of the Living by pretending he wants her to meet his parents. She agrees to this and takes him to see Elder Gutknecht, the kindly ruler of the underworld, to send him and Emily temporarily to the Land of the Living.
P: Once back home, Victor asks Emily to wait in the forest while he rushes off to see Victoria and confess his wish to marry her as soon as possible, to which she gladly returns his feelings. Emily soon arrives and sees the two of them together and, feeling betrayed and hurt, drags Victor back to the Land of the Dead.
Y :Victoria tells her parents that Victor has been forcibly wed to a dead woman, but they believe she has lost her mind and lock her up in her bedroom. With Victor gone, Victoria's parents decide to marry her off to a presumably wealthy newcomer in town named Lord Barkis Bittern, who appeared at the wedding rehearsal, against her will.
P:Emily is heartbroken by Victor's deception, thinking he loves Victoria simply because she is alive. Victor, however, apologizes for lying to her, and the two reconcile while playing a piano together. Shortly after, Victor's family coachman appears in the afterlife and informs Victor of Victoria's impending marriage to Lord Barkis. At the same time, Emily learns from Elder Gutknecht that because marriage vows are only binding until "death do you part" and death already parts them, her supposed marriage to Victor was never valid.
。。。。。。。。。。。。)
Y:In order for their marriage to become valid, Victor must repeat his vows in the Land Of The Living and drink poison- thus joining her in death. Overhearing this, and fretting about having lost his chance with Victoria, Victor agrees to die for Emily.
P: All of the dead go "upstairs" to the Land of the Living to perform the wedding ceremony for Victor and Emily. Upon their arrival, the town erupts into a temporary panic until every living recognizes each other's loved ones from the dead and they have a joyous reunion under the bizarre circumstances.
Y:After a quarrel with Lord Barkis -and realizing he was only after her supposed money- Victoria follows the procession of dead to the church. As Victor prepares to drink the cup of poison to kill himself, Emily notices Victoria and has second thoughts, realizing that she is denying Victoria her chance at happiness the same way it was stolen from her.
(0。。。。。。。。。。。。 。。。。。。。。)
P :Lord Barkis interrupts them, and Emily recognizes him as her former fiance - who is revealed to be the one who murdered her for her dowry. Lord Barkis tries to kidnap Victoria at sword point, but Victor stops him and the two men duel. Emily intercedes to save Victor, and Lord Barkis mockingly proposes a toast to Emily claiming she's "always the bridesmaid, never the bride!", accidentally drinking the cup of poison. The dead drag the "new arrival" away to the Land of the Dead.
Y:Emily sets Victor free of his vow to marry her, giving the wedding ring back to Victor and her wedding bouquet to Victoria before exiting the church.
P: As she steps into the moonlight, she transforms into hundreds of butterflies, presumably finding her eternal rest, as Victor and Victoria look on.
