2.2 TEST METHOD ABSTRACTS
2.2.1 Gurley is the time in seconds required to pass 10 cc of air through one square inch of product under a pressure of 12.2 inches of water. Ten (10) measurements taken
across the width of the roll are averaged and compared to the tolerance limits. Gurley is a key measure of process stability.
2.2.2 measured across the width of the sample in the machine direction. The sample is exposed to air at 90°C for one hour, the lengths are re-measured, and the results averaged and compared to the tolerance limits.
2.2.3 circular shoe contacting the sample at eight (8) PSI. Thirty (30) individual
micrometer readings taken across the width of the sample are averaged and compared to the tolerance limits.
2.2.4 width of the sample and weighing them on a precision balance with accuracy of 0.0001 grams. The three (3) samples are averaged and compared to tolerance limits.
2.2.5 force in grams required to separate two one-inch wide sections of bonded membrane or membrane and nonwoven.

system. 2.2.8 roll. The aesthetics guidelines include identification of the following defects: wrinkles, creases, folds, clear streaks, gels, black specks, shifted layers on rolls,
feathered edges on rolls, poor edge registry on rolls, gauge bands, raised edges on rolls, particulate contamination, and telescoping rolls.
2.3 TYPICAL PROPERTIES (NONACCEPTANCE PROPERTIES)
2.3.1 Typical properties are descriptive of a product, but not considered acceptance criteria. They are not
necessarily tested on a product roll, but are generally based on resin lot data or data related to a process change.
2.3.2 The typical values shown in the table below are the targets and/or most frequently occurring value
based on a statistical evaluation of each property. In no way are these values meant to represent actual measurements of any specific roll of FSM.

necessarily tested on a product roll, but are generally based on resin lot data. TABLE III - IMPURITIES

2.5 PHYSICAL PARAMETERS
2.5.1 WIDTH
The customer is requested to specify on the Purchase Order the desired width, which can range from 23.0
to 28.0 mm in 1mm increments and from 28.5 to 93 mm in 0.5 mm increments. Each width is slit to a tolerance of ± 0.2 mm.
2.5.2 LENGTH
The customer is requested to specify on the Purchase Order the desired total area, typically in square feet.
Celgard, LLC will convert this to the appropriate number of standard rolls; the standard roll lengths are as follows:
2.5.2.1 400 + / -0 meters 2.5.2.2 800 + / -0 meters
3.0 SAMPLING
See "Sampling Plan for Single-Ply, Double-Ply, and Multi-Layered FSM" (REF: H-FS-1000).
4.0 RECORD KEEPING AND SAMPLE RETENTION
See "Record Keeping and Sample Retention for FSM Products in the Product Testing Lab" (REF:
D-QC-1019).
5.0 SPECIAL ACTIONS None
6.0 PACKAGING/LABELING/STORAGE 6.1 PACKAGING
6.1.1 Material under 127 mm wide shall be packaged on cores having a nominal 76 mm ID; material 127
mm and wider shall be packaged on nominal 152 mm ID cores. Cores shall be made from non-shedding plastic.
6.1.2 Each roll shall be cleaned with deionized air and wrapped in plastic to ensure that the product does
not come into contact with any contaminant. Material shall be packaged in
appropriate shipping containers to ensure transportability and ease of handling while maintaining the material in its most usable form.
6.1.3 Materials that use chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and/or ozone-depleting compounds (ODCs) in their
manufacturing processes are not used for the packaging of this product.
6.2 LABELING
6.2.1 Each roll shall be labeled with the following, as a minimum: Product Identification Roll Number Nominal Width Nominal Length Approximate Square Meters
6.2.2 Each carton shall be labeled with the following, as a minimum: Manufacturer's Name
Product Identification
Roll Number of first sequential roll in the carton Nominal Width Nominal Length, carton total Area, carton total Customer's Purchase Order Number Manufacturer's Order Number 6.3 STORAGE
When stored in a protected place in the original packaging at temperatures under 110 °F [43 °C], the
product should retain its properties within the stated values for at least two (2) years from the date of manufacture.
Claims are dictated by the Terms and Conditions of Sale on the Order Acknowledgment.
6.4 PRODUCT CERTIFICATION
Filling a purchase order, which references this specification, denotes that Celgard, LLC
acknowledges compliance to the requirements of this specification for that material.
